Exotic Wood Slab Types
Monkey pod
(Samanta Saman)
The Monkey Pod or Cenízaro tree is native to Central and South America. The heartwood has a golden to dark brown color.
The sapwood is light yellow to white and is clearly distinguishable from the heartwood. With a density of approximately 0.4 it is hard wood.
Parota
(Enterolobium cyclocarpum)
The Parota or Guanacaste tree, the national tree of Costa Rica, is found in the tropical areas of Mexico and Central America and is known for its large trunk sizes.
Parota wood is naturally water resistant and has a unique appearance and texture. The heartwood is medium brown, with sometimes streaks of dark brown. The sapwood is a pale yellow and is clearly demarcated from the heartwood. The grain is quite coarse.
